No 365 subscription and Office 2021 has products, like desktop OneNote and Publisher, that Microsoft is deprecating. Older products probably have less spyware in them. I let my MS 365 subscription lapse and installation of Office 2021 went smoothly. I did not like that the email address I used for payment was used to hold the license key rather than the email I used for Stack Social account. It took a while to find my license key. Regardless, it was a worthwhile purchase given 2021 was just a fraction of the cost of 1 year of MS 365.

It would be better if this was easy to register to microsoft account. But it does the job anyway. So good enough for me.

The price is great with an understanding it will not be supported in the future, but it way better than maintaining a 365 subscription service. I purchased other products like Microsoft Project, and Visio, even though, I am retired, but it is helpful.
